Description

Princely State of Kishangarh, Mughal Style, in the Name of Shah Alam II, Year of Minting: 1806-1837 CE, Denomination: 1 Takka, Metal: Copper, Weight: 17.98 grams, Diameter: 19.90 mm, Mint: Kishangarh, About Very Fine.

Obverse: Persian inscription “Shah Alam II” accompanied by a distinctive four-petalled floral motif.

Reverse: Stylized Jhar (bush/tree) symbol in the center, without any legend.

The Princely State of Kishangarh continued to strike copper coinage in the traditional Mughal style long after the decline of effective Mughal authority. Although these coins were issued during the early nineteenth century, they retained the name of Emperor Shah Alam II, reflecting the enduring prestige of Mughal imperial legitimacy among the Rajput states. Rather than introducing completely new designs, Kishangarh adopted a simplified local style inspired by contemporary Mughal and Jaipur copper coinage, producing thick hammered Takka coins for everyday circulation within the state. These issues illustrate the gradual transition from imperial to regional monetary systems while preserving the artistic and political traditions of Mughal India.

Coinage Note: The copper 1 Takka of Kishangarh is a crude Mughal-style issue bearing the name Shah Alam II with a four-petalled floral motif on the obverse and the distinctive Jhar (bush/tree) symbol on the reverse. these hammered coins were struck between 1806 and 1837 CE and represent transitional Rajput coinage that preserved Mughal monetary traditions while incorporating local symbolic designs.
