The coinage of the British Mandate of Palestine was introduced in 1927 under British administration, marking the establishment of a unified monetary system for the territory following the period of Egyptian currency circulation. The 2 Mils bronze coin, issued in the inaugural year of Palestine’s coinage, represents an important part of this monetary history. Its design features the name “Palestine” in Arabic, Hebrew, and English, reflecting the region’s multilingual character, while the reverse displays the denomination alongside an olive tree branch, a symbol closely associated with the land and its agricultural heritage. The currency formed part of the Palestine Pound system, which was linked to the British Pound. These coins remained in circulation during the Mandate period, which ended in 1948. Today, the 1927 Two Mils coin is valued by collectors as an early issue of British Mandate Palestine, representing a significant transitional period in the region’s political, economic, and cultural history.
