Thanjavur Nayak Kingdom, King Raghunatha Nayak (c. 1600–1634 CE), Denomination: 1 Kasu, Composition: Copper, Weight: 1.54 grams, Diameter: 10.5 mm, Shape: Round, Irregular, Reference: MSI #741, About Very Fine, Scarce.

Obverse: Standing figures of Lord Rama, Lakshmana and Goddess Sita, depicted together in a traditional religious composition.
Reverse: Tamil-style legend associated with Sri Raghunatha Nayak, arranged in stylized characters within the central field.
Raghunatha Nayak ruled the Thanjavur Nayak kingdom from approximately 1600 to 1634 CE and was one of the prominent rulers of the Nayak dynasty in southern India. His reign is associated with military activity, administrative development and the patronage of literature, music and temple culture. Thanjavur remained an important centre of South Indian art and religious traditions under Nayak rule. Raghunatha Nayak was also remembered for his support of Telugu and Sanskrit literary works and for encouraging cultural activities at his court. The kingdom maintained regional traditions of temple worship and local commerce, reflecting the continued importance of Hindu religious imagery in the political and cultural life of the period.
Coinage Note: This copper 1 Kasu was issued under Raghunatha Nayak of the Thanjavur Nayak kingdom. The obverse features the standing figures of Rama, Lakshmana and Sita, while the reverse carries a stylized legend associated with Sri Raghunatha Nayak. Such small copper denominations served local monetary needs and reflect the religious symbolism and regional artistic traditions of Nayak-period coinage.
