Vologases I ruled the Parthian Empire from around 51 to 78/80 or 88 AD. He was a strong and strategic king who worked to stabilize the empire, strengthen Parthian traditions, and reduce Greek cultural influence. His reign marked the beginning of a more Iranian-style identity in coinage and administration. Vologases I is known for founding the city of Valashabad near Ctesiphon and for his attempts to control Armenia, leading to conflicts with Rome.
He issued coins in various metals including silver (drachms and tetradrachms) and bronze. His coins often feature his bearded bust and the image of the seated archer, a traditional Parthian symbol. Many of his coins were struck at Ecbatana and other key mints across the empire.
