Sher Shah Suri, originally named Farid al-Din, was the founder of the Sur Empire in northern India after defeating the Mughal emperor Humayun in 1540. Ruling from 1538 to 1545 AD, Sher Shah was a brilliant administrator and military strategist. He reformed the revenue system, built the Grand Trunk Road, and introduced standardized currency, including the copper Dam. This 1 Dam coin, minted in Agra in AH 950 (1543-44 AD), reflects his emphasis on strong governance and justice, as noted in its inscriptions. His brief reign laid the foundation for future Mughal administrative practices and left a lasting legacy in Indian history.
