Bahlul Lodi, founder of the Lodi dynasty (1451–1489), introduced a distinct coinage that reflected his sovereignty over the Delhi Sultanate. His coins, primarily made of silver and billon, featured Islamic inscriptions, with titles such as “Sultan Bahlul” in Arabic. The most common denomination was the tanka. His coinage continued the pre-existing traditions of the Delhi Sultanate but with some modifications, like the inclusion of his name and titles. Bahlul Lodi’s coinage, though relatively scarce, marked a transition in Delhi’s numismatic history as his reign established the foundation for the Lodi rule and its economy.
