Obverse: Ashoka Lion Capital centered with the country name in Devanagari “भारत” and Latin “INDIA” on either side.

Reverse: Denomination “1” above the mint year, with Devanagari legends “रुपये का सौवाँ भाग” (meaning “One-hundredth of a Rupee”) above “1 पैसा” and the year “1964”.

Issued during the early years of India’s decimal coinage, the 1 Paisa nickel brass coin of 1964 reflects the continued development of the Republic of India’s modern monetary system introduced after decimalisation in 1957.
