Obverse: Persian inscription “Fulus Salimabad Ajmer”, naming the copper denomination and Ajmer mint, with the legend arranged in elegant calligraphic style.

Reverse: The regnal year appears both in Persian words and numerals, recording the issue within Akbar’s reign.

Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad Akbar (1556-1605 CE) succeeded his father Humayun and established one of the most powerful and administratively organized empires in Indian history. His military campaigns extended Mughal authority across Gujarat, Bengal, Rajputana, Kashmir, and parts of the Deccan. Akbar relied on commanders such as Raja Man Singh, Todar Mal, and Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana. His administrative reforms, including the mansabdari and revenue systems, strengthened imperial governance, while alliances with Rajput rulers helped consolidate the empire. His reign also produced important monuments such as Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri and witnessed remarkable development in literature, painting, and architecture.

Coinage Note: This substantial copper One Dam (Falus) was struck at the Ajmer Mint during Akbar’s reign. The obverse identifies the issue as Fulus Salimabad Ajmer, while the reverse records the regnal year in both words and numerals. Ajmer was an important Mughal administrative and religious centre, and its copper coinage served everyday commercial transactions alongside Akbar’s silver Rupees and gold coinage.
