Taj ud-Din Firuz Shah Bahmani (r. 1397–1422 AD) was the 8th ruler of the Bahmani Sultanate and one of its most brilliant monarchs. A scholar and capable administrator, he strengthened his empire through reforms and promoted art, architecture, and learning. His reign saw intense rivalry with the Vijayanagar Empire over control of the Raichur Doab region. Firuz Shah achieved several victories in these wars and expanded Bahmani influence in the Deccan. Under his rule, Bahmani coinage flourished with gold Mohars, silver Tankas, and copper Ganis, reflecting a strong economy. His magnificent tomb (maqbara) lies in Gulbarga, Karnataka. Firuz Shah is remembered for his patronage of Persian culture, architecture, and his vision of a prosperous, united Deccan.
