Shams ud-Din Iltutmish, Delhi Sultanate (Mamluk Dynasty), AH 607-633/1210-1235 AD), Composition: Billon, Denomination: Jital, Weight: 3.45 Grams, Diameter: 15 mm, Reference: G&G #D55, about extremely fine.

Obverse: shams al-dunya wa ‘l din abu ‘l muzaffar Iltutmish al-sultan; with abu ‘ muzaffar in the second line,

Reverse: horseman to right, above nagari legend sri hamira,

Iltutmish was the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate who ruled the dynasty from 1211 to 1236 CE. He was one of the slaves of Qutb-ud-din Aibak who later became his Son-in-Law. He conquered Multan and Bengal from contesting rulers, and Ranthambhore and Siwalik from their rulers.
Coinage system under Iltutmish possessed some distinctive features. Iltutmish introduced the silver Tanka and the copper Jital-the two basic coins of the Sultanate period, with a standard weight of 175 grains. This ‘text and horseman’ type billon Jital showed besides was minted during the reign of Iltutmish. The obverse of the coin stylized horseman with legend ‘Shri’ on left while the reverse of the coin is inscribed with Arabic legend ‘shams al-dunya wa’l din iltutmish al-sultan’.
