Shah Jahan, one of the most renowned Mughal emperors, ruled from 1628 to 1658 AD and is best known for commissioning the Taj Mahal. His reign marked the height of Mughal architectural brilliance and economic prosperity. This silver rupee, minted in AH 1040 (1630 AD) at Surat, reflects the elegance and uniformity of Mughal coinage. Featuring legends in four lines on both sides, it exemplifies the “Hijri” type format used during his reign.
