This copper 20 Cash coin belongs to the Mysore State under Krishna Raja Wodeyar III (1810–1868 AD), ruler of the historic Wodeyar dynasty, which regained control of Mysore after the fall of Tipu Sultan in 1799. The Wodeyars had long-standing political tension with Tipu Sultan’s family, as Tipu had earlier displaced them from power. After the British defeated Tipu Sultan, the Wodeyars were restored to the throne, marking a new chapter for the dynasty.
Issued in 1838 CE from the Mahisur Mint, the coin shows a lion below the date and the sacred word “Chamundi.” The reverse carries the mint name, the Kannarese legend “Krishna,” and the value. Weighing 8.75 grams and 21.92 mm, this coin is extremely scarce today.
