Maharaja Daulat Rao Scindia ruled the Maratha State of Gwalior from 1794 to 1827 CE, a period marked by major political shifts in India. His reign witnessed the Second and Third Anglo-Maratha Wars, where growing British influence reshaped regional power. Despite military setbacks, Daulat Rao maintained the royal prestige of Gwalior and reorganized his administration under British pressure.

This silver rupee, struck at the Sheopur (Canon-mark) mint, bears the name of Mughal Emperor Akbar II, reflecting the tradition of Maratha states issuing coins under symbolic Mughal authority.
