The Later Kushana Kota-Kula rulers governed parts of the Haryana region between 360–460 CE, during the decline of the larger Kushan Empire. This period saw several small dynasties asserting local authority while preserving Kushan artistic and religious traditions. The Kota-Kula chiefs issued copper drachms that prominently featured Shiva and his sacred bull Nandi, symbolizing royal protection, strength, and continuity of Shaivite worship in North India. Their reverse design, showing the Kota symbol flanked by standards, represented clan identity and political legitimacy. Though their rule was regional, Kota-Kula coinage reflects an important transitional era when local powers maintained trade, culture, and religious practices after the fading of imperial Kushan influence, making these coins historically scarce and valuable.
