The Princely State of Kutch was an important regional kingdom in western India ruled by the Jadeja Rajput dynasty. During the reign of Maharao Vijayarajji (1942–1948), the state continued issuing its own copper coinage while still acknowledging the authority of the British monarch King George VI, whose titles appear in the coin legends. These coins were struck at the Bhuj mint, the capital of Kutch.

The 1 Dhabu formed part of the traditional Kutch monetary system based on the Kori currency, where multiple small copper denominations were used for daily trade in local markets. The distinctive central hole design, along with symbols such as the crescent, trident, and dagger, reflects the unique iconography of Kutch coinage during the final years of princely state rule before the integration of these states into independent India after 1947.
