Humayun, the son and successor of Babur, was the second emperor of the Mughal Empire and ruled during a formative phase of Mughal administration in India. His reign (1530–1540 CE) was marked by struggles against the rising Afghan leader Sher Shah Suri, which eventually forced him into exile before briefly regaining the throne in 1555. During his early reign, copper falus coins such as this were struck for everyday market transactions, forming the lowest tier of the Mughal monetary system beneath the silver rupee and gold mohur.

These copper issues reflect the transitional stage of Mughal coinage, still influenced by earlier Delhi Sultanate styles but gradually developing a more standardized imperial format. The falus coins circulated widely in local markets and were typically struck on irregular flans, making well-centered examples comparatively desirable among collectors of early Mughal numismatics.
