Bhimadeva Shahi was a ruler of the later Hindu Shahi dynasty, governing the Kabul–Gandhara region during the early 10th century CE, approximately between 921 and 964 CE. The Hindu Shahis were the successors of the Kabul Shahis and played a crucial role in defending northwestern India against repeated incursions from Central Asian powers. Bhimadeva’s reign falls within a period when the jital had become the standard silver-based currency of the region. His coinage follows the long-established “bull and horseman” type, a design that symbolized royal authority and continuity, and which remained influential for centuries, later adopted by early Islamic rulers of India. The Sharada script legend identifying him as “brāhmaṇa śāhi shri bhīma deva” is particularly significant, as it confirms his identity and Hindu Shahi affiliation. Coins of Bhimadeva are scarce today and are highly valued for their clear legends, historical attribution, and role in the transitional monetary history of early medieval North India.
