Ghiyath ud-din Tughluq was the founder of the Tughluq dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate, ruling from 1320 to 1325 CE. Before ascending the throne, he served as a military commander under the Khalji rulers and gained prominence for his administrative abilities and success in frontier campaigns. After overthrowing the short-lived rule of Khusrau Khan, he established the Tughluq dynasty and worked to restore political stability within the Sultanate.

During his reign he strengthened the administration, reorganized revenue collection, and constructed the fortified city of Tughluqabad near Delhi as a new defensive capital. Although his rule lasted only a few years, Ghiyath ud-din Tughluq laid the foundations for a powerful dynasty that would dominate northern India during the 14th century.

Billon denominations such as the 4 Gani circulated widely for daily transactions throughout the Delhi Sultanate. These hammered coins typically bear simple Arabic inscriptions naming the Sultan and reflect the transitional monetary system of the early Tughluq period, when base-silver billon coinage formed an important part of regional commerce.
