Description
Ghaznavid Sultanate, Nasir-ud-daula Ibrahim (AH 451-493/1059-1099 AD), Billon Jital, Lahore, Obv: bull to left with sri samanta deva above, Rev: within circle: ‘adl nasir al-daula wa zahir al-milla ibrahim, mint and date in margin, 3.20g, 15.14mm, (G&G # GZ31), about fine.
Nasir-ud-Daula Ibrahim ruled the Ghaznavid Sultanate from AH 451–493 (1059–1099 AD). During his long reign, the empire’s control weakened, especially in India. This Billon Jital coin, struck at Lahore, reflects cultural syncretism—featuring a bull with “Sri Samanta Deva” on the obverse and Arabic inscriptions on the reverse, blending Hindu symbolism with Islamic authority.
