Maharao Khengarji III of Kutch (r. 1875–1942 AD) was one of the most progressive rulers of his time. Under his reign, Kutch saw rapid modernization — development of railways, ports, schools, and administrative reforms. He strengthened trade relations and encouraged industrial growth, making Bhuj a vibrant economic center. A great patron of culture and governance, he maintained cordial relations with the British Crown, earning titles and honors for his loyalty. His era also witnessed the minting of distinctive Kutch coinage, such as the copper Dokado, which bore both his name and that of the British monarch — symbolizing a blend of royal authority and colonial alliance.
