Chainpur Mint Jalal ud-Din Muhammad Akbar Mughal Empire Extremely Rare Copper Dam Coin

This extremely rare Chainpur Mint copper Dam (Falus) was issued during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad Akbar, one of the greatest rulers of early modern India. Akbar (1556–1605 AD) consolidated the Mughal Empire through military expansion, administrative reforms, and a policy of religious tolerance. His introduction of the Ilahi calendar reflected his interest in astronomy, governance, and imperial unity.

The coin belongs to Ilahi Year 45, clearly naming “Akbar Shahi” on the obverse with the mint name Chainpur, a short-lived and poorly documented provincial mint, making such issues exceptionally scarce. The reverse records the Ilahi year and the month Amardad, highlighting Akbar’s calendar reforms. Struck in copper with a heavy flan, this piece represents Akbar’s systematic monetary standardization and regional mint network, surviving today as a rare witness to Mughal administrative reach.
