The coin belongs to the reign of Lakshmi Singha of the Ahom dynasty, ruling Assam during 1769–1780 CE, a period marked by political unrest and internal rebellion. The Ahom kingdom, which had ruled Assam for centuries, was facing Moamoria rebellion, one of the most serious uprisings that weakened central authority. Despite instability, the Ahom rulers continued to assert sovereign control and regional identity, maintaining administrative and monetary systems. This period reflects the resilience of the kingdom before eventual decline and later Burmese invasions in the early 19th century.

This coin represents the indigenous silver coinage tradition of Northeast India, issued under the Ahom kingdom and clearly distinct from Mughal monetary styles. The inscriptions in Ahom/Assamese script emphasize strong regional identity and royal authority. This coin type was hand-struck using traditional minting techniques, resulting in slight variations in each piece. It circulated mainly within the kingdom, serving local economic needs. Today, such coins are regarded as rare and historically significant examples of pre-colonial Indian numismatics.
