Alauddin Muhammad Khalji (1296–1316 CE) was one of the most powerful rulers of the Khalji dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. Known for his military genius and strict administrative reforms, he expanded his empire through successful campaigns in Gujarat, Ranthambore, Chittor, and the Deccan. His reign marked strong control over nobles, market reforms to regulate prices, and a highly disciplined army. The copper Paika coin, inscribed with al-sultan al-aʿzam and ala al-dunya wa ’l-din, reflects his claim as “The Greatest Sultan, Exalted of the World and Faith.” These coins symbolized both political authority and economic stability during his rule.
