The Kingdom of Kangra, ruled by Triloka Chandra Deva II (1420–1450 AD), belonged to the ancient Katoch dynasty — one of the oldest royal lineages in northern India. Centered in the Kangra region of modern Himachal Pradesh, the Katoch rulers controlled a vast hill territory extending from the lower Himalayas to parts of Punjab. The dynasty maintained power even during the Delhi Sultanate’s decline, though they frequently faced invasions from neighboring hill chiefs and Sultanate forces seeking control of the Kangra Fort. Triloka Chandra Deva II’s reign marked a phase of consolidation and resistance against Muslim expansion from the plains. During the early Mughal period, the Kangra rulers retained semi-independent status under nominal Mughal suzerainty, preserving their regional authority and culture.
