Description
Delhi Sultan, Muhammad Adil Shah Suri (AH 960-964, 1552-1556 AD), Copper Paisa, 20.38 gms, 22.09 mm, Shahgarh Mint, G&G # D1116, very fine, scarce.
Adil Shah Suri, also known as Muhammad Adil Shah, ruled the Sur Empire from 1555 to 1557 after the death of Islam Shah Suri. His reign was marked by political instability and frequent rebellions. Despite the short rule, Adil Shah Suri issued copper coins (paisa) as part of his currency system. These coins typically featured Islamic inscriptions and his name in Arabic script. The coinage reflected the continued Sur tradition of strong administrative practices, though the empire was declining. His coinage is now rare and valued by collectors as a symbol of the turbulent post-Sher Shah Suri era in Indian history.
