Obverse: The Kalima Shahada inscribed within a circle, with the names of the four rightly guided Caliphs in the margins. 

Reverse: Persian inscription reading “Zarb Lahore, Sahib-e-qiran sani, Shahab al-din Muhammad Shah Jahan Badshah Ghazi,” identifying the mint of Lahore and the emperor Shah Jahan.

Shah Jahan I was the fifth emperor of the Mughal Empire, renowned for his architectural achievements, imperial grandeur, and refined artistic traditions. His reign witnessed the construction of celebrated monuments, including the Taj Mahal, while the Mughal Empire maintained an extensive administrative and commercial network. Coinage Note: This silver rupee was struck at the Lahore mint in AH 1042 (1632 CE), during the fifth regnal year of Shah Jahan I. The obverse features the Kalima Shahada with the names of the four rightly guided Caliphs in the margins, while the reverse carries the mint name Lahore and the emperor’s royal titles in Persian. Catalogued as KM#227.7, this very scarce issue represents the religious and imperial conventions of Mughal silver coinage. Its clearly visible Lahore mint attribution, historical date, and Very Fine grade make it a desirable type for collectors of Shah Jahan’s coinage and Mughal numismatics.
