Obverse: Persian inscription in elegant calligraphy, featuring the imperial formula “Allahu Akbar”, reflecting Akbar’s distinctive religious and monetary inscriptions.

Reverse: Persian legend naming Dogaon, Dar-ul-Salam, with the mint designation incorporated into the inscription.

Jalal-ud-Din Muhammad Akbar (1556-1605 CE) succeeded his father Humayun and established one of the most powerful and administratively organized empires in Indian history. His military campaigns extended Mughal authority across Gujarat, Bengal, Rajputana, Kashmir, and parts of the Deccan. Akbar relied on commanders such as Raja Man Singh, Todar Mal, and Abdul Rahim Khan-i-Khana. His administrative reforms, including the mansabdari and revenue systems, strengthened imperial governance, while alliances with Rajput rulers helped consolidate the empire. His reign also produced important monuments such as Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri and witnessed remarkable development in literature, painting, and architecture.

Coinage Note: This copper Dam, weighing approximately 20.50 grams, was struck at the Dogaon Dar-ul-Salam Mint. The issue is particularly notable for naming Dogaon as Dar-ul-Salam and for the prominent “Allahu Akbar” formula on the obverse. Copper Dams formed an important part of Akbar’s monetary system and were widely used for everyday commercial transactions alongside his silver Rupees and gold coinage.
