Obverse: Elegant Arabic-Persian inscription reads “Al-Sultan Bin Al-Sultan Nasir Al-Dunya Wa’l-Din Abu’l Muzaffar,” proclaiming the Sultan’s royal titles.

Reverse: The continuation names Nusrat Shah as son of Husain Shah, followed by the phrase “Khallada Allah Mulkahu,” invoking divine perpetuation of his sovereignty.

Nasir Al-Din Nusrat Shah, son of Alauddin Husain Shah, ruled Bengal from 1519 to 1533 CE and continued the expansion and consolidation of the Hussain Shahi Sultanate. His reign coincided with the rise of the Mughal Empire under Babur, while Bengal also faced pressure from neighbouring powers including the Ahom kingdom. Nusrat Shah maintained Bengal’s political importance and supported a flourishing cultural environment inherited from his father’s reign. The Hussain Shahi period is widely regarded as an important phase in the cultural and political history of medieval Bengal.

Coinage Note: This silver Tanka represents the refined coinage of Nusrat Shah and is associated with the Dar-al-Darb Husainabad mint. His coins are known for elegant Arabic-Persian calligraphy, royal titulature, and legends distributed across both sides. Nusrat Shah issued both gold and silver coinage, with round and octagonal forms known. The phrase “Khallada Allah Mulkahu” appears on many examples.
