The British India ¼ Anna of 1938–1943 was issued during the reign of George VI, a period marked by the Second World War and rising nationalist movements in India. Struck in bronze for daily circulation, this denomination played a vital role in everyday transactions among the common population. The obverse portrait by Percy Metcalfe symbolizes imperial authority, while the reverse preserves traditional Indian floral elements, maintaining continuity in colonial coinage design. This type is known in two distinct varieties—the round head and the narrow head—adding further collectible interest. Examples in such high grade with natural rainbow toning are increasingly sought after, especially by collectors focusing on superior quality wartime issues.
