The copper 1 Kasu of the Wodeyars of Mysore, issued between 1674 and 1760 CE, reflects the deep religious and cultural identity of the Mysore kingdom. During this period, the Wodeyar rulers consolidated their authority after regaining power from the Vijayanagara Empire’s decline, establishing Mysore as a significant regional force in South India. The depiction of Lord Ganesha on the obverse highlights the ruler’s devotion to Hindu traditions, invoking the deity as a symbol of prosperity, wisdom, and auspicious beginnings.
