This beautifully preserved deep-struck silver Rupee of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir represents a high-grade issue from the Golkonda mint, struck in Regnal Year 7 (c. 1664–65 CE). The coin displays natural old toning and sharp, complete legends, indicating careful striking and limited circulation. Such well-preserved Golconda mint Rupees of Aurangzeb are extremely rare today, as most surviving specimens are weakly struck or heavily worn.

Historically, Golconda was ruled by the Qutb Shahi dynasty and remained politically independent until its final conquest in 1687 CE. However, long before annexation, the Golconda rulers accepted Mughal suzerainty: the khutba was read in Aurangzeb’s name and silver coinage was issued acknowledging his authority. This Rupee belongs to that pre-annexation phase, reflecting Mughal imperial dominance without direct military control. It stands as an important numismatic witness to Aurangzeb’s expanding influence in the Deccan.
