Burhan Nizam Shah II ruled the Ahmadnagar Sultanate from AH 1000–1003 (1591–1595 CE), during a turbulent period marked by rising Mughal expansion under Akbar. He belonged to the illustrious Nizam Shahi dynasty, which had transformed Ahmadnagar into a major Deccan power. Burhanabad, the mint named on this copper Falus, served as an important administrative and military center of the sultanate. His short reign was defined by internal court rivalries and the growing pressure of Mughal forces seeking to dominate the Deccan. Despite political instability, the sultanate continued issuing high-quality copper coinage bearing clear legends like “darb dar al-saltana Burhanabad,” reflecting strong minting traditions. Coins from his reign are scarce today due to its brief duration and continuous warfare.
