Shams ud-Din Iltutmish, one of the strongest rulers of the early Delhi Sultanate, governed from 1211 to 1236 CE and firmly consolidated Turkish rule in North India. A former slave who rose through talent and strategy, he reorganized the administrative system, strengthened the iqta structure, and expanded the empire’s boundaries. His reign also marked the recognition of Delhi Sultanate by the Abbasid Caliphate, boosting its legitimacy.
