Abdullah Qutb Shah (r. 1626–1672 AD) was the seventh ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty of the Golkonda Sultanate. His reign marked the peak of cultural and architectural development in the Deccan, especially in Hyderabad. He was a patron of Persian literature, art, and music, and continued the legacy of tolerance and prosperity established by his ancestors. Under his rule, the famous Charminar area flourished as a vibrant trade and cultural hub. The copper Falus of his era, such as this coin, bears Persian inscriptions expressing blessings and good fortune, with mint marks from “Dar-ul Sultanate Shahr-i-Haidarabad.” These coins reflect the sophistication and economic strength of the Golkonda Sultanate before its eventual annexation by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1687 AD.
