This copper 1 Paisa coin was issued during the reign of Haidar Ali, the powerful ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore (AH 1195–1196 / AD 1781–1782). Struck at the Patan (Srirangapatna) mint, it features an elephant facing right with its tail raised, symbolizing strength, authority, and royal pride. The reverse bears the Persian inscription “Zarb Patan”, meaning “Struck at Patan.” Haidar Ali, father of Tipu Sultan, transformed Mysore into a formidable military state, resisting British expansion in southern India. This coin represents his firm governance, economic independence, and the rich numismatic heritage of late 18th-century Mysore.
