Shah Jahan I (1628–1658 AD), the fifth Mughal emperor, is remembered as the great patron of architecture, best known for commissioning the Taj Mahal, Red Fort in Delhi, and Jama Masjid. His reign marked the height of Mughal grandeur, with flourishing art, literature, and urban development. Though his rule brought prosperity, it was also marked by costly wars, especially in the Deccan. The silver rupee, like this example from Surat mint dated AH 1055 / RY 19, reflects the precision and elegance of Mughal coinage. Weighing 11.41 g and 21 mm in diameter, it symbolizes imperial authority and economic stability.
