Ala-ud-Din Bahman Shah, the founder of the Bahmani Sultanate (1347–1358 AD), established one of the first independent Muslim kingdoms in the Deccan after revolting against the Delhi Sultanate. His reign laid the foundation for a strong and prosperous state with Gulbarga as its capital. This copper 1/2 falus coin, inscribed with Ala-ud-dunya wa’l din on the obverse and Bahman Shah al-sultan on the reverse, reflects his authority and the emerging identity of the Bahmani rule. Issued during the formative years of the Sultanate, such coins are rare and provide valuable insight into early Deccan numismatics and political independence.
