Jalal-ud-din Firuz Shah Khalji (r. 1290–1296) was the founder of the Khalji dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. He was an experienced military leader and came to power at the age of 70, following the end of the Slave Dynasty. Known for his mild and just rule, he tried to avoid unnecessary wars and maintained peace in his kingdom. Despite opposition from Turkish nobles, he strengthened the Khalji power base.
Coinage: He issued silver 1 Tanka coins in Islamic style with Arabic inscriptions. These coins reflected continuity from the Slave Dynasty’s monetary system and marked the beginning of Khalji authority. His silver Tankas symbolized economic stability and the Sultanate’s control over trade and revenue systems.
